I’m a bargain

So I realize that bikini season is right around the corner and, um, I haven't been to the gym in about 100 days.  I'm not obsessed about weight, but the little things like the way my arm wiggles a certain way or the way my pants are showin' my junk a little more have convinced me to at least keep track of what I'm eating so that I can spot some problem areas.  I have jumped on the Fitday bandwagon and, oh my, it is interesting.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present Exhibit A:

Bad

My first thought was that I just might have what it takes to get into sumo wrestling!  Okay, okay, the beer was a bit much, but we had so much fun!  And who can pass up the Pete's burger at the Highlander?  Not I, says the biggest bear.

After seeing this I realized that I could probably do better if I made an effort.  The next couple of days consisted of me not eating pure crap and drinking (ahem) moderately.  It actually wasn't hard, and I now know what I can or can't have depending on what else I had during the day.  So basically, I barter with myself all the time.

Exhibit B - the Barter system:

Better

I basically had a bigger lunch for a smaller dinner, a glass of wine instead of cheese and crackers, and so on.  And I pretty much barter between days, too, so I can have one fattastically gourmet day or a 3-fer at Sweetwater, and then a day like today to make up for it.

Frozen vegan enchilada anyone?  Ack.

What's weird is that there's both corn syrup and aspartame in it, so it's like a regular and diet coke combination.  So it doesn't have a ton of calories, but it still tastes like regular coke and gave me that "oh-my-god-I-feel-like-I-just-ate-an-entire-sugar-plantation" bloated feeling.  It also comes in small glass bottles, but with a resealable plastic cap.  Interesting.

Oh, and a four-pack was $6.  Yep.

Nacho average nachos

I sent in a suggestion to Creative Loafing's food editor to help a reader out to scout out good nachos in ATL.  My suggestion of the Highlander's version got printed:

Lori likes hers creamy: "The chicken nachos at the Highlander are excellent. It's a strange texture -- smoky, shredded, so soft it's almost like creamy chicken, but it's absolutely great!"

Um, sounds ... creamy. This is one of those times I'm really glad to have readers do the tasting work for me.

I'd be happy to, Cliff.  Their chicken nachos are delicious, if not a bit different.

But of course, we should ask the resident expert.

Because it rhymes, bitches

I came in thinking, "why yes, I believe I'll be good today and have myself a nice little spinach salad and cup of soup."  Delightful.

But then I come to work and find out it's FRIED CHICKEN AND MAC 'N CHEESE DAY.

Damn you wielders of menu powers!
