Say hello to Heidi, the newest member of our household.
I was a bit hesitant about adopting another dog right now (for several different reasons), but she's just the sweetest thing. She's friendly and loves both people and other dogs. She's constantly smiling and ready to give affection or play.
Molly, on the other hand, is not so impressed with her, especially with the whole "sharing" thing. But I think they'll be fine after a few days, especially since Heidi has made it her goal to get Molly to play with her.
In the meantime, there have been a few incidents of fighting over toys and "you're too close to my water bowl." I have also mastered the distinct skill at getting caught in the middle of them when it happens, so I need to go ice down the lump on my shin (again). Sigh.

China continues to slaughter dogs
August 4th, 2006 § 2 comments § permalink
After killing over 50,000 dogs in one province, China has issued an order to continue the mass slaughter of dogs to curb a rabies outbreak.
I am absolutely sickened by this, not just by the mass killing of dogs but also knowing that rabies has killed more than 2,000 people in China last year after year. This is a largely preventable disease, but while 75% of rural Chinese homes have dogs, only about 3% vaccinate their pets regularly.
The laziness and irresponsability of pet owners is not only resulting in the deaths of innocent animals again, but is KILLING the citizens of China. I'm just so disgusted and astounded that the Chinese think the dogs are the actual problem.

Last night the boy and I joined Mr. and Mrs. P'body at the Shakespeare Tavern to see The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged).
Oh my god, I have not laughed that hard in such a long time. Three people performing all of Shakespeare's works in a little under two hours, complete with super-soakers, cross-dressing, audience participation, cursing, and silly string is sure to beat any other performance of his yet. All three players were fantastic, but Paul Hester was absolutely hilarious and adorable.
Sunday is the last performance, so if you love Shakespeare (hell, even if you hate him), do yourself a favor and see it.
