China continues to slaughter dogs

August 4th, 2006 § 2 comments

After killing over 50,000 dogs in one province, China has issued an order to continue the mass slaughter of dogs to curb a rabies outbreak.

I am absolutely sickened by this, not just by the mass killing of dogs but also knowing that rabies has killed more than 2,000 people in China last year after year.  This is a largely preventable disease, but while 75% of rural Chinese homes have dogs, only about 3% vaccinate their pets regularly.

The laziness and irresponsability of pet owners is not only resulting in the deaths of innocent animals again, but is KILLING the citizens of China. I'm just so disgusted and astounded that the Chinese think the dogs are the actual problem.

Reading this post makes me realize why Americans will always have conflict with other nations in this case the inability to realize not every country has people who lavish their dog with sweaters and pay thousands for surgery to prolong it’s life

You’re totally right. I mean, why save people’s lives if it takes a whole $5 to get your annual rabies vaccination? Silly.
